Our conversation with Stacey Barbas, Senior Program Officer for Health at the Kresge Foundation, couldn't come at a more relevant time. Find out how the health of the environment, the health of our communities and our individual health are all inextricably linked. Stacey discusses Kresge's FreshLo initiative, which invests in hyper-local and community-led projects (usually centered around food) that impart a sense of pride and placemaking in communities and create resiliency in the face of a crisis like the current COVID pandemic.

My vision would be that everyone lives in a community of their choice, where it’s safe and people can thrive economically, but also where they have access to things like healthy food, safe and affordable housing and social cohesion, or a sense of belonging that contributes to mental health and wellbeing. Most importantly, I see a world where people are able to use their voice, strength and resources to make the best decisions for themselves and for their families.
